As a statement to his vision, renowned Chicago architect Daniel Burnham was once quoted as saying "Make no little plans." The Lemont Park District’s vision is clear as well and we have big plans!

As the Lemont Park Board of Commissioners and Park Staff embark on the most aggressive expansion plan in the 40+ year history of the district, this quote has taken on a special meaning at the Lemont Park District. It was just a short time ago that we commissioned a comprehensive study to determine what the people of Lemont desired in their recreation needs.
During this very proactive time for our district, we have listened carefully to your comments, reviewed your wishes and have made fiscally sound decisions in bringing you the amenities you have asked for and the amenities that our community deserves. Below is a brief summary.

Early Child Day Care: Our new early childhood day care opened to exciting fanfare in September of 2007. With a new floor plan we were able to increase the amount of classes, while decreasing the number of students per class. With the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Day Care Center was able to introduce the students to interactive learning through the development of an 8 station computer lab.

Outdoor Aquatic Experience: Work is underway on the new outdoor water park. Complete with a brand new entrance, a 6 lane 25 meter pool, 1 meter diving board, slide amenities, a leisure pool w/ zero depth entry, interactive play pieces, new and improved locker rooms, outdoor speed lockers and future poolside party rental rooms. Coming summer of 2008.

Fitness & Indoor Aquatics: Comprehensive planning has been completed on the state of the art Fitness and Aquatic Center. With guidance from the award winning team of Gilfillan Callahan Nelson Architects and Nicholas & Associates Construction we anticipate an official ground breaking by early summer 2008.

Covington North: A new regional park is being developed on a 6 acre parcel on the corner of Covington Drive and Auburn Lane. This new site will encompass: a playground, 3 basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, a walking trail, a tennis court, multi-purpose field, restrooms and drinking fountains. This recreation venue is being constructed on a matching funds grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Coming summer of 2008.

Chicago White Sox Miracle Field of Lemont: With the help of the Lemont Park Foundation, the Chicago White Sox, Lemont Sertoma, Ozinga, Imperial Crane, Thrivent Financial and Lemont Little League this unique field concept will be an integral part of programming for: the Tri-County Special Recreation Association, Little League’s new Challenger Division and wounded US veterans. Coming early June of 2008.

Safe Routes to School Pedway: Working in partnership with the Village of Lemont, School District 113A and the Lemont Police Department we were able to secure $400,000 in state funding to build a pedestrian walkway over 127th St. This project will give our patrons easier access to a full assortment of recreational opportunities at the Centennial Campus, as well as providing welcomed relief for those students who walk to Old Quarry. Coming summer of 2009.

The Board of Commissioners are fully committed to bringing you the very best amenities, and in doing so, we realize that you may be inconvenienced at some point over the next few months and we ask for your patience during our growth spurt.

On behalf of the park board I would like to thank you for your continued patronage and remind you to visit www.lemontparks.org for future project updates.
